Often when discussing the topic of the Communist Vietnamese Forces of the Vietnam War, the Vietnamese Army and Viet-Cong are confused as one group, in reality this could not have been further from reality. While the Viet-Cong was a force formed primarily from civilians, the majority living in villages in the South of the country, the Vietnamese Army, referred to as the North Vietnamese Army, or People's Army of Vietnam, was an actual standing military, armed, clothed, and equipped as any other functioning military would be.
